South Florida Destination Wedding: Wedding Planner

South Florida  Destination Wedding: Wedding Planner

Yes, if you are planning to have a Destination Wedding in South Florida, one of your “homework” is to find the perfect Wedding Planner/Consultant.

In other words, you need someone here in South Florida to be YOU. Just as United States has embassies all over world and their ambassadors are the highest ranking diplomats who represent our nation in those countries. The same way, you will need someone to be your representation here when planning your wedding from a different state or country.

But how can you trust someone you don’t know  personally? Well, that is part of your homework:

1. See their reviews. In their website, Google, Yelp,, Facebook and in different Social Media websites they should have reviews.

2. Ask them questions. Ask, ask, ask! They should be knowledgeable of this type of weddings, about the area, best places, about the venues, weather and vendors.

3. Facetime, Skype. Have at least an interview through Facetime or Skype.

4. Quick response. See how quick they respond to your e-mails and phone calls.

5. Chemistry. Make sure you are booking someone you like. Trust your senses.

Weather Factors in Florida: Wedding Planning

Well, South Florida’s weather is crazy, unpredictable!

Having a wedding outdoor could be an amazing idea, why? If you like to be in connection with nature, if you are planning a rustic themed wedding or if you are simply tired of the “typical” wedding, an outdoor wedding is a great idea!

However, there are few factors you should keep in mind:

1. Hurricane Season: The peak of the hurricane season in Florida is from August to October. You don’t want a hurricane to ruin your wedding day, right?

2. Rainy Season: The peak of the rainy season in our region is from June to September.

3. Hottest Months: The hottest months in Florida are June, July and August. Trust me when I tell you this: When is hot in Florida, it’s HOT! It might sound nasty, but if you take a shower right now, then you go outside, you will be sweating in 5 minutes without any physical activity.

In conclusion, the months not recommend for an outdoor wedding are: JUNE, JULY, AUGUST AND SEPTEMBER.

5 Budget Tips When Planning a Wedding in South Florida

First, as a bride you need to learn this word if you want to save some money: “DYI” which stands for “Do It Yourself”. Impossible to save money without learning this word!

Usually South Florida’s weather is very nice depending on the season. Do a little research on some outdoor venue during the day.

Formula: Outdoor = less $$$ + Daytime = less $$$

If you are renting chairs for your wedding ceremony, if possible use those same chairs for your reception. It will save the money of having to rent them for both venues.

There many formats online for your Wedding Invitations. From Google Images or from any other website where you can purchase images, get a wedding invitation template, then edit it with own information on “Paint” (a program used to edit images installed in most computer already), save it. Go to Office Depot or any other place similar to this one and tell them to print it for you. Try to print most of the invitations on one page, it usually fits 4 or 2 depending on the size you want. Buy your own envelopes and that is it.

South Florida is one of the most popular states when it comes to weddings, so you need to be strategic on which day and time your choosing to get married. I mentioned it before, weddings during the day are usually cheaper. Weddings on a Saturday are more expensive, Fridays are more affordable and Thursdays even more.

Simple, most venues offer better prices when it is a Buffet Style Reception. Why? Less man-power! In a Sit Down Dinner you need at least 7 servers or more, while in a Buffet you only need around 3 of them.

Getting married… What is the first step?

When it comes to a wedding there are 1,236 details to take care of, you know what I mean, right? What is the first step?

Well, the one which represents more money and time. Reception venue!

A church, temple or a ceremony site usually are much easier to find than a Reception Venue. To start making your invitations and to start preparing your budget you need to know how much the most expensive “thing” of the wedding is going to cost. Usually finding a reception venue takes a lot of time but it is worth it start with this! Trust me! After this step, everything else flows lighter.

TIP: Ask for specific prices when looking for a venue, what it includes exactly, fees, ask if there is any other fee you need to know (hidden fees) and have a list of these questions before going to these places so you won’t forget.

Beach Wedding in South Florida Part 1

One of the most popular themes for a wedding in South Florida, yes! It’s a Beach Wedding. Why?

There are few reasons why. One of the reasons, it’s because they are very affordable compared to some other themes. At the beach, pretty much what need is chairs, a chuppah or an arch, the groom and the bride. Depending on what you want, this might cost you around $500 to $700. Good prices, trust me! The Wedding Industry is an expensive one.

Another reason why, it’s because of the connection with nature on your wedding day. The beach, white sands, palm trees, ect. It also gives a very casual, rustic, tropical, not-formal touch to your wedding – I personally dislike those weddings where you can not even move because you feel like you’re doing something wrong, they are so formal you feel trapped in it! DISLIKE!

The last reason, you can add own personal touch. While getting married in a venue, church, temple or anywhere similar to it might be significant and traditional, sometimes you are unable to add your personal touch to it. Having a Beach Wedding might be the way to go when you want to DIY, which saves you a lot of money and to show personal style.

Affordable Wedding Venues in South Florida Part 2

As posted in our last blog “Affordable Wedding Venues in South Florida” if you are not Paris Hilton or JLo, you might be going through the same situation as many brides, trying to find the best prices possible for your wedding ceremony and reception. As I mentioned before, doing some of the wedding planning yourself can save thousands, yes! Thousands you can use for something else.

What to do?

First, what you are going to need is TIME! Searching for the right place for your wedding venue is going to take some of it. Any banquet hall/hotel is going to charge you around $40 per person plus taxes, just for the food, tables, chairs and basic linens. Everything else, you have to pay for it; decoration, lighting, draping, centerpieces, ect, ect… Mmm! Are calculating? Yes, a lot!

Before I help you find your wedding venue, let me tell you an experience I had decorating a wedding recently. I was able to decorate and plan a complete wedding reception with a budget of  $3500 for 100 guests, this is what it included: Food, tables, chairs, complete table set up, dishware, glasses, silverware, linens, chair covers,  servers, centerpieces for 11 tables, whole room draping, ceiling draping with lights, uplighting, torches, a romantic bonfire, security and the venue rental. Sounds good for that amount of money, right?

Good question, where? Where would like to have your wedding reception at? Beach, historic, garden, lake view?

I am going to recommend you to take a look at this website: Florida State Parks, here you will find a complete list of the State Parks available for weddings. Most of them offer wedding ceremonies sites and pavilions for your wedding reception. Pavilions? Yes!!! Trust me, if you want to save some compared to a banquet hall or hotels, theses pavilions might be a very good option, all they need is an “Extreme Makeover”, some wall and ceiling draping, uplighting, some chairs, tables, ect, ect. Some companies offer these services for an affordable price. Like I said, some of the wedding planning has to be done by you or your bridesmaids but it will save you some money. How about the food? Just contact some catering companies. They will deliver the food for you and offer a serves at additional prices.

Here you have a list of some of the State Parks:

Affordable Wedding Venues in South Florida

I have to be totally honest with you about this subject, if you’re not Paris Hilton nor have the money JLo has, your wedding expenses might be way out of your reach. So let’s be realistic, you want to have the wedding of your dreams without going bankrupt, right? But the reality is that if you go to a nice hotel or banquethall and ask them for a quote, it won’t be less than $35 + taxes per person. Are you calculating? Yes, it’s a lot of money when you have to add decorations, photographer, videographers, limo and all the details about a wedding.

I went through the same process you might be going through right now, calculating, budgeting, saving plans and asking for quotes. However, the best advice that I can give you is that you take the time to do “some” of the wedding planning yourself,  you will save a lot of money.

In South Florida, there are so many beautiful state parks where you might be able to have your dream wedding and save some money on the side. State parks in South Florida offer a wide variety of places, views, settings and very good prices. They are perfect for outdoor ceremonies and breathtaking receptions. Note: You are going to have invest some time and money to transform your venue and make it look stunning but it’s worth it compared to the thousands of dollards you would need to spend in one of theses fancy places.

I don’t have anything against expensive hotel venues or banquethall, not at all. If you have the money, spend it! But if you are like most brides wanting to save some $$$, this is for you to read.

In our 2nd Part of “Affordable Wedding Venues in South Florida” I will you more details about some states parks, locations, amenities and prices.
